PLATFORM at The Old Vic Tunnels

When I heard about this play, set deep in The Old Vic Tunnels beneath Waterloo, I was really intrigued and simply had to get tickets. The play was a heart warming, modern-day love story set against the back drop of London, bringing together an unlikely group of people, who find friendship in an adventure that begins on the Bakerloo line.

This unique venue took audience participation to a new level, as the crowd followed the action from scene to scene, walking through the tunnels as if an extra in the play. The inventive sets transported you across London, through the underground to Tower Bridge, past cyclists and drunken zombies, all whilst walking through snowy streets following an ice cream van!! Even the interval bar organically became part of the next scene, prompting some surprised reactions from the crowd!
Over 100 volunteers came together to help make this community theatre project possible. It was wonderfully acted, with great song and dance numbers and plenty of laugh out loud moments (and maybe a tear or two...shhh)!

Not only was this an amazing piece of theatre but one of the best experiences I have ever had... and I don't say that lightly! The play managed to realistically capture daily life and all the great characters we come across in and around London. I walked away feeling incredibly uplifted and proud to live in this great city.
