Jewellery at its finest - Christopher St James

Tucked away down a little side street near Leicester Square, Cecil Court feels like the kind of place you'd find in a Dickens novel! As soon as you step into this narrow thoroughfare, you instantly leave all the touristy hustle and bustle behind you, as if the place was invisible. It's lined with small, intimate shops where you can find rare and antique maps, books, stamps, all those nice, old smelling kind of places. But the jewel in the crown is Christopher St James, the most gorgeous little jewellery shop i have ever seen. I can't tell you the number of times i've stood outside this shop after closing hours, peering through the window at all the goodies, wishing i'd just walked a little faster! It's owned by Mr Christopher St. James himself, who is such a wonderful, passionate, friendly guy, that it makes the visit all the more lovely. Oh the stories this man has, having lived between London and Paris for years. He has been commissioned to make jewellery for some really exciting projects, like the films Phantom of the Opera, Elizabeth and Shakespeare in Love, as well a  number of plays and operas in the West End. The designs are original, achingly beautiful and all at very reasonable prices. Take a detour next time you're in the area...and take some pennies!
As i was snapping away, my eye was drawn to this exceptionally blingy calculator. The story behind it is just gorgeous. It turns out that this sparkly number is actually designer customised. It was made by Alexander McQueen for Christopher, as a thank you for designing jewellery for one of his catwalk shows. Such a thoughtful gift.

Museum of Broken Relationships

I've been so excited about this eclectic exhibition coming to London. Anything that promises to tell stories of lost love through the weird and wonderful, is my kind of museum. It's been touring the world (via Croatia) collecting objects and stories along the way, objects that define the 'love legacy' of relationships past. i love the concept of channeling the sadness and/or anger of a break up through creativity. By donating a meaningful object the exhibition hopes to act as therapeutic closure for all involved. You'd think the whole thing would border on depressing, but some of the stories of lucky escapes and intense love are actually really uplifting. There's a story in there that everybody can relate to. Turns out that it doesn't matter who you are, or where you're from, a broken heart is a broken heart. There is something comforting in that. My favourite item? Hmmm, think it's the Spanish scientist voodoo doll...i have a vengeful streak!
oooh the intrigue...what were the words??
Magic 8 balls can get addictive...

ahhh....the mix tape
The Museum of Broken Relationships runs August 15 – September 4 at the Tristan Bates Theatre, London WC2.

it's a me...Mario!

What kind of crazy person goes shopping on a Friday night?? Me that's who! The man needed a second opinion and this was the only free evening we had...not ideal! God bless Urban Outfitters for letting women in the changing rooms. The kind of changing rooms that have space, decked out with comfy sofas and coffee table books. Not to mention super cool, Super Mario wall art! My reward for being a patient shopping buddy...dinner at Polpetto. Well worth braving the shops for.

brick walls

i have a strange fascination with brick walls. Maybe because, as a young girl, when i complained of being bored, my Dad would tell me to 'go bang my head against a brick wall''. Until the boredom subsided, you see?? A little unorthodox maybe but it encouraged me to find less painful hobbies! So anyway, maybe this is why i am drawn to photographing them. Much to the bemusement of passers by, who can't figure out whether i'm seeing something fascinating that they're not, or whether i am just plain crazy. you decide.
